Napoleon had been looking for a new passage on the left bank of the Danube after the Aspern-Essling failure and on Jhe crossed under the cover of a violent storm. His ammunition park was a few miles to the north, at Gross Engersdorf. This put his troops in a V formation around his headquarters in Wagram.
